Singapore Named As Major Global City

Singapore named as major global city Singapore continues to punch above its weight on the global scene, with the city-state having been named as one of the best cities in the world by Foreign Policy magazine.

Judging global cities on a number of criteria, including business opportunities, educational institutions and cultural merits, the influential US publication concluded that Singapore is the seventh-best global city.

Indeed, only New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Los Angeles were ranked higher than the city, meaning it saw off some stiff competition from the likes of Frankfurt, Beijing and Chicago.

The study also found that Singapore successfully and consistently manages to draw in a diverse range of people and talents, with this reflected in its status as one of Asia's most popular tourist destinations.

Alongside a booming business environment, the city-state also boasts a thriving cultural scene, drawing influences from its Chinese, Malay, Indian and Tamil heritage and, while up-market raffles may attract visitors looking to try an original Singapore Sling, numerous cheap hotels also make it a popular choice for those on a budget.
