Singapore Prepares for Three Major Festivals

Singapore prepares for three major festivals People staying in cheap hotels in Singapore will have no shortage of events to keep them entertained over the coming months as the state hosts three major ethnic festivals.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the Mid-Autumn Festival and Deepavali will be celebrated by the Malay, Chinese and Indian communities respectively.

The Hari Raya Aidilfitri festivities will get things underway with a variety of events and exhibitions being held in Kampong Glam from August 24th to October 5th and in Geylang Serai from August 30th to October 12th.

For the Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinatown will be the location for dazzling displays of lights, fireworks, bazaars and lanterns between August 31st and September 30th.

Little India will be the final destination to get into the festival mood as it hosts Deepavali from September 20th to November 2nd. This occasion sees Hindus all over the world celebrate the triumph of good over evil and light lamps to let in light and good fortune.

Divya Panickar of the Singapore Tourism Board said: "Today's travellers are increasingly looking for ways to directly experience and become involved with a country's culture and customs.

"By celebrating these special occasions with the locals, visitors will be immersed in the rich traditions of Singapore's unique heritage."
