African Royalty

African Royalty Those heading to South Africa looking for variety can find it aplenty in the state of Kwazulu-Natal, where the capital, Pitermaritzburg, hosts the Royal Show, a vast display of agricultural produce and livestock, from May 25th to June 3rd.

If this sounds like nothing more than a huge gathering of farmers, think again: the show has concerts, fireworks and even showjumping to offer in a wide and eclectic variety of attractions for those not interested in vintage tractors.

The whole show has plenty of food and good facilities for the huge crowds that attend.

Pietermaritzburg has plenty of cheap hotels, as well as being an ideal location to explore the state.

While the countryside nearby has a wealth of traditional Zulu culture to explore, historic battlefields such as Rorkes Drift and the stunning grandeur of the Drakensberg Mountains.

To the south, visitors can hit the beach, surf and nightlife in sunny Durban.
