It's Jazz the Thing
Jazz fans heading to South Africa will be able to enjoy the music of several of the biggest stars in the industry during the Standard Bank Jazz Festival, held in Johannesburg from August 23rd to 25th.
Essex-born singer and songwriter Jamie Cullum was one of the stars of last year's festival, with many top performers no doubt lined up for 2007, which will see events held in various venues across the city.
As well as the jazz, visitors staying in cheap hotels in Johannesburg can enjoy a wide range of sights and sounds.
These range from the panoramic, with trips up the Carlton Tower to the Roof of Africa providing views across the metropolis from the tallest building on the continent, to the historic, with the Apartheid Museum revealing the nation's troubled past.
A trip to Gold Reef city will provide an insight into the 19th century gold rush which led to the establishment of Johannesburg, while there is plenty of shopping and nightlife, particularly in the northern suburbs.
