Run the Oceans
Those feeling fit and energetic who fancy trying something a bit different at Easter can certainly do so in Cape Town, where Easter Sunday (April 7th) sees the city hosting the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon.
Staged in one of the most beautiful urban settings on the planet, the race is no ordinary marathon - instead of the standard 26 miles and 385 yards it is an Ultra marathon of 35 miles, much of which incorporates the mountain scenery that the city wraps itself around.
Beginning in Newlands near the famous cricket and rugby grounds, the race heads south to the beautifully enclosed Hout Bay, up the stunning Chapman's Peak coast road, across the peninsula to Fish Hoek and back northwards to the University of Cape Town.
While visitors booking early can take part, watching can be just as much fun, the scenery of the route making it worth the trip alone.
Those staying in cheap hotels in Cape Town can also enjoy fine beaches, wineries, excellent seafood and plenty of historic sites, such as Robben Island, which can be visited by boat and guided tour.
