A Grande Week out
Visitors to the Basque city of Bilbao in August will be in for a grand old time if the visit coincides with Semana Grande (Big Week), which takes place in the third week of the month and sees the city go wild.
Central to the festival, known in the Basque language as Aste Nagusia, is the celebration of Basque culture and tradition, with lots of music, food and fireworks at night.
A particular feature of the celebration in Bilbao is the strongman contest, where the most might and muscular try to out-do each other in their lifting, pulling and throwing exploits.
Visitors staying in cheap hotels can eat, drink and be merry for a week while also seeing Bilbao's many interesting attractions.
Chief among these is the famous Guggenheim museum, which is remarkable enough for its ship-shape, while inside visitors will be able to see an exhibition of artworks by German Artist Anselm Kiefer plus many other works.
