African Photography Comes to Barcelona
An exhibition will open in Barcelona this month providing a fascinating insight into modern culture and creativity in Africa.
The seventh Bamako African Photography Meeting will take place at the Centre of Contemporary Culture in Barcelona (CCCB) from February 25th to June 1st this year.
Entitled The City and Beyond, this instalment of the Bamako initiative will explore the topic of life and existence in urban environments, focusing particularly on how fragile it can be.
People staying in cheap hotels in Barcelona will see photographs representing unfinished urban structures, social groups and other entities associated with modern cities.
For the first time this year, the Bamako exhibition will feature a section entitled New Images, which will exhibit independent videos that aim to make a departure from the stereotypes normally associated with Africa.
Also opening at the CCCB this month is the exhibition Illuminations, which explores the significance of work by artists who have associations with Catalonia, such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro and Antoni Tapies.
