Ancient Greece Explored in Alicante
Holidaymakers enjoying stays in cheap hotels in Valencia this year may be tempted to make a short trip down the coast to visit an exhibition of relics from ancient Greece being held in Alicante.
The display will be open at the Alicante Provincial Archaeological Museum until the end of September this year.
Some 125 pieces borrowed from the permanent collection of the British Museum form the bulk of the exhibition, including some of the civilisation's most important works of art.
Arguably the most famous item of all is the statue of a discus thrower created by the Greek sculptor Myron.
Many other sculptures, ceramics and other pieces of art feature in the exhibition, along with terracotta pieces, bronzes, coins and written items.
Alicante and Valencia are two of the most popular destinations on Spain's Costa Blanca, with other leading holiday hotspots that travellers can visit in the region including Murcia, Torrevieja and Benidorm.
