Barcelona Explores Lothar Baumgarten
The Contemporary Art Museum of Barcelona (Macba) will this year pay tribute to an artist who has never before been treated to an exclusive exhibition in Spain.
A retrospective dedicated to Lothar Baumgarten will be held at the museum until June 15th.
German artist Baumgarten, who was the son of an anthropologist, spent part of his life living among the indigenous civilisations of the Venezuelan Amazon.
He was reportedly one of the first artists to conduct an extensive study of the representative features of minority cultures.
The Macba exhibition, which is Spain's first show devoted entirely to Baumgarten, will focus on the photographs he took in Venezuela and the United States.
People staying in cheap hotels in Barcelona with an interest in photography will be able to find another fascinating exhibition, called Zhu Yi, at the Palau de la Virreina before May 25th.
This show will comprise 109 photos taken by 31 artists between 1994 and 2006.
