Barcelona Festival Set to Start

Barcelona festival set to start
The famous Grec Festival is set to start this weekend.

Regarded by Whatsonwhen as "the most important cultural event of the season", the festival of theatre, dance and music is set to bring life to Barcelona until August 5th 2006.

The beginning of the 30th festival will be marked with up to 50 shows, including Plurals, a concert where song writers Francesc Pi de la Serra, Jabier Muguruza and Javier Ruibal offer a reinterpretation of their music.

A Brazilian and African twist will dominate the show, which tries to create an example of an ordinary day, a meeting between different peoples and cultures, which is a key theme in this year's event.

Daniel Negro, the "mind behind the concert", states that the show "reflects the new normality of a city where more and more different peoples live together", while festival director Borja Sitja, views Plurals as "a way of normalising something ordinary, something which is part of our lives".

The event will continue in a rich cultural vein throughout its tenure in the city, expecting to attract thousands of visitors from across the world.
