Barcelona Markets Prepare for Xmas
People enjoying stays in cheap hotels in Barcelona will be treated to a number of special offers and discounts at local markets.
A range of deals are dreamt up over the Christmas and new year period to encourage visitors to come to the local markets and pick up some gifts to take home.
Lotteries and raffles will be held for cruises, cars, hampers, computers and shopping vouchers.
The festive shopping season in Barcelona continues until January 6th, when the city holds its festival featuring the arrival of the Three Kings, another attraction to tourists.
Jordi Torrades of the Municipal Institute of Barcelona Markets said that sales during the Christmas period are thought to be between 30 and 50 per cent higher than the rest of the year.
Markets all around Barcelona have enjoyed a good start to the shopping extravaganza, with popular shopping sites such as the Boqueria and Sants packed with visitors over the first weekend of the season.
Holidaymakers who enjoy a trip to one of Barcelona's markets this year may wish to post a letter to one of the Three Kings, which can be done via an orange post box or alternatively sent online.
