Barcelona Museum Acquires New Picasso Piece

Barcelona museum acquires new Picasso piece A drawing from Pablo Picasso's Las Meninas series has been donated to the Museu Picasso in Barcelona.

The piece is thought to be the first drawing that the great artist completed during his exploration of Velazquez's Las Meninas, an analysis that eventually consisted of some 58 oil paintings.

Rarely seen before in public, the work was donated to the Museu Picasso by Catherine Hutin, the daughter of Jacqueline Picasso, the artist's last wife.

Barcelona mayor Jordi Hereu thanked Ms Hutin for her donation and said that it "reinforces our project to make Picasso a key symbol of our city".

Pepe Serra, director of the Museu Picasso, said: "It's an exceptional acquisition for the museum, for its extremely detailed study of proportions and light."

The drawing represents the completion of the museum's Las Meninas series.

In one month's time, the collection will be reorganised chronologically and put on display for people staying in cheap hotels in Barcelona and other visitors to see.
