Barcelona Park Wins Design Award
Travellers who book a stay in a cheap hotel in Barcelona will have the opportunity to experience one of the world's best-designed parks, if a prestigious awards group is to be believed.
The Parc Central de Nou Barris won the 2007 international urban landscape award in Frankfurt.
Established by Eurohypo AG, international magazine Topos and German publication Architektur & Whonen, the accolade is presented to new urban designs that recognise issues of sustainability and innovation.
The Barcelona park was chosen as a finalist along with locations in Amsterdam, Leipzig, Seattle and Zurich.
According to the Barcelona City Council, the Parc Central de Nou Barris was praised for the way in which it fits in with its surroundings, its size and its effectiveness in creating a focal point for people in the area.
Francesc Arrabal, who received the award on behalf of the city council, said: "The projects submitted covered an impressive range.
"The award is a recognition of the work that has been done and places the Parc de Nou Barris at the forefront of international urban spaces."
