Brits 'on the Lookout for Bargains'
Cheap hotels in Valencia and other affordable holiday options are set to prove increasingly popular this year as British travellers search for bargains, according to new research.
Tesco Travel Money commissioned a survey which found that affordability tops the list of priorities for Brits this year, with 34 per cent of respondents saying they will spend less on holidays than in 2008.
More than half (54 per cent) said they will save money by cutting back on food and drink costs, while 43 per cent intend to spend less on gifts and duty-free items.
While the credit crunch appears to have created a more frugal attitude among Brits, it has not dampened desire to travel, with 54 per cent of respondents saying they will be taking a holiday abroad this year.
A spokesperson for Tesco Travel Money said: "It's great to see that holidaymakers are pulling out the stops to get value for money and making sacrifices to ensure they get their two weeks in the sun."
Nearly two million British people travelled abroad over the May bank holiday weekend, according to Abta - The Travel Association, many of whom visited Spain.
