Admirers of modern and performance art should consider making their way to Barcelona's Museu d'Art Contemporani (Macba) over the coming months to learn about the work of Joan Jonas.
Born in New York in 1936, Jonas is one of the leading lights in the fields of performance, video and conceptual art and contemporary theatre.
Her earliest work explored ideas of space and perception, incorporating elements of dance, theatre, sculpture and drawing.
The Macba exhibition consists of four installations that are representative of the artist's career along with a series of films, drawings and photographs that collectively present a reading of her work.
To accommodate the show, the museum's Capella des Angels has been specially converted into an open polyphonic theatre.
Macba is one of the largest and best-known art galleries in Barcelona, close to the shops, hotels and restaurants of La Rambla, the city's famous thoroughfare.
