Cross over to Cordoba
Spain is renowned for painting the town red at Easter time, but the end of April and beginning of May is no less extravagant, as the city marks the arrival of the fifth month with a wide display of floral crosses.
The May Crosses are not just a religious display; there is keen competition to create the most beautiful, extravagant and intricate designs, with floats, processions and whole communities getting involved.
It's all good fun, of course, with plenty of partying, music and food to follow in the evening.
Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Cordoba will never be short of things to do, least of all at this time.
Other activities include exploring the historic world heritage city centre, where a succession of cultures from the Romans and arabs to the modern have left their mark, while food fanatics can enjoy Paella in its native region and golf lovers play one of the many courses for which Andalucia is famous.
