Ernst Exhibition Open in Madrid

Ernst exhibition open in Madrid People staying in cheap hotels in Madrid this year will be able to visit an exhibition of work by the surrealist artist Max Ernst.

The display will be open at the Mapfre Cultural Foundation from February 4th until May 24th.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to see 182 original collages created by Ernst for Une Semaine de Bonte, a graphic novel that he composed during a three-week visit to Italy in the early 1930s.

Ernst created his collages using 19th century novels and encyclopedias, creating images with often dark and surreal elements.

The artist consistently used certain images and icons in his work on the project, including water, lions and human figures with the wings of a bird or a dragon.

People with an interest in modern art may also want to pay a visit to the Museo del Prado during trips to Madrid this year, with a Francis Bacon exhibition opening today (February 3rd) and running until April 19th.
