F1's Return to Barcelona Entertains Thousands
Formula One racing returned to Barcelona over the weekend to the delight of thousands of spectators.
Legendary drivers such as Emerson Fittipaldi and Marc Gene drove around the Montjuic track to celebrate the 75th anniversary of its opening.
Local racing fans and tourists lucky enough to have booked a cheap hotel in Barcelona enjoyed the sight of more than 80 period cars making their way around the old circuit.
Gene took to the track in a 2006 Ferrari while former world champion Fittipaldi drove around the mountain track in a Lotus 72.
According to the event's organisers some 200,000 people attended the event, which began on Saturday with an exhibition of around 80 cars on the Avinguda Reina Maria Cristina.
The Montjuic circuit was selected as the venue for the Spanish Grand Prix between 1968 and 1975. Since 1991 the Grand Prix has been held at the Circuit de Catalunya on the outskirts of Barcelona.
