Fun in Spain Starts Straight off the Plane

Fun in Spain starts straight off the plane Travellers looking for sun, music and all-round fun might want to check out Granada's International Festival of Dance and Music, which starts next weekend.

Pipex states that the event "should have any sensible music enthusiast booking the first available plane for southern Spain" and over 30,000 people each year have a similar idea.

Encompassing many varying styles and genres, each held in a unique setting, the event features concerts performed by large symphony orchestras at King Carlos V Palace, with dance and ballet at the open-air theatre in Generalife Gardens.

The festival also contains recitals at El Patio de los Arrayanes in the Alhambra and matinee concerts in some of Granada’s beautiful and historic churches and buildings.

Travellers to the flamenco late nights and world music night, in the characteristic areas of El Albaicín and El Sacromonte, may find sangria and flamboyant outfits twirling to the backdrop of beautiful buildings and rolling landscape.

The event is held in various settings in and around the city, while its origins date back to symphonic concerts that were held at the Palace of King Carlos V from 1883 onwards.

This eventually combined with the Cante Jondo (flamenco singing) contest held in Plaza de los Aljibes Square in the Alhambra in 1922, giving the festival a rich cultural tradition.
