Get to Barcelona for the 12th Night of Christmas
There are surely few people who still feel in a festive mood on the twelfth night of Christmas - by January 5th the excitement of the season has softened to a murmur, although some people may still be feeling the after-effects of the New Year's Eve celebrations.
In the magnificent city of Barcelona, however, January 5th has a very different feel, as crowds of people gather to watch a parade to mark the final day of the festive period.
The Twelfth Night procession, or Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos for the linguistically talented, is a popular cultural tradition in Spain and Latin America.
Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Barcelona at the beginning of 2008 can join the crowds as they gather at the harbour to watch the Three Wise Men arrive.
Fireworks are set off upon the first sighting of the kings' boat and fog horns are blasted emphatically before a 21-gun salute welcomes the ship to shore.
The spectacle is then concluded by a procession through the city centre, led by the mayor and the metropolitan guard, which ends at the floodlit fountain at Montjuic, where classical music written especially for the event is played.
