Hit the Sweet Spot
There are many reasons to visit Barcelona, but anyone thinking that indulging a sweet tooth isn't one of them should think again.
Held on March 3rd, Fiesta de San Medir is a celebration of the life of the patron saint of broad beans, but the carriage procession that accompanies it doesn't dispense the bland green vegetable; instead, sweets are thrown into the crowd before a big firework display tops off a day of partying, music and fun.
Those staying in cheap hotels in Barcelona can find plenty more to see and do as well, with the modernist architecture of Gaudi taking centre stage and Catalan culture proudly displayed everywhere, not least in the local football team, the current European champions, but also in local museums and art galleries.
With spring arriving the weather will be warm and the beaches pleasant, while the nightlife is legendary and the street entertainment around Las Ramblas is a must-do.
