Human Tower Building Competition to Hit Barcelona

Human tower building competition to hit Barcelona The Fiesta de la Merce can offer those who stay in a cheap hotel in Barcelona the unique experience of witnessing human tower building.

Taking place on September 24th, the fiesta – held in honour of the city's patron saint, the Virgin de La Merce, - will see a whole range of activities take place, ranging from fireworks displays to parades and dancing.

Other events at the celebration include displays of 'fire-breathing' dragons and papier mache Catalonian icons.

However, one of the more interesting spectacles is the competition to build a human tower on the Placa St Juame.

Entrants organised in teams dress in traditional red and blue costumes and form human constructions that can be up to eight people high and topped with a child.
