Madrid Exhibition Looks at Catalan Sculptor
The Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid this month hosted the opening of an exhibition of work by the Catalan sculptor Julio Gonzalez.
Holidaymakers staying in cheap hotels in Madrid will be able to see the showcase, which was organised in collaboration with the Museo Nacional de Catalunya, until June 1st.
Gonzalez was one of the most influential practitioners of steel sculpture in the 20th century and is regarded as one of Spain's great masters in the art-form.
Some 200 works are gathered together for the Museo Reina Sofia exhibition, including forged bronze pieces of plaster models, iron sculptures and a number of posthumous creations by other artists.
Gonzalez was also a painter and designer, a side of his work that is illustrated by a number of pieces at the display in Madrid, while a series of drawings offers an insight into the creative process behind his sculptures.
This exhibition will be followed at the Museo Reina Sofia by a showcase of work by Juan Munoz, who will be given his biggest ever international retrospective up to August 31st.
