Madrid Institution Explores New York

Madrid institution explores New York People staying in cheap hotels in Madrid over the coming months will be able to pay a visit to one of the city's leading cultural institutions to see an exhibition of photography exploring New York.

The display will be open at La Casa Encendida in the Spanish capital until June 14th.

Arranged in collaboration with New York's Museum of Modern Art, the exhibition explores both the history of photography and the unique appearance and atmosphere of the Big Apple through the work of more than 90 artists.

Several prestigious names from the world of modern photography feature in the showcase, including Diane Arbus, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Cindy Sherman, Walter Evans and Helen Levitt.

Commenting on the exhibition, curator Sarah Hermanson Meister said: "The photographs generated by the restless and constant commitment of numerous photographers to the city of New York have played a fundamental role in determining how New Yorkers perceive the city and themselves.

"These photographs have also defined the city's image in the world's imagination."

Visitors to Madrid may also be interested in heading to La Casa Encendida before June 7th this year to see the first retrospective ever held in Spain on the life and work of the playwright and poet Antonin Arnaud.
