Madrid Museum Celebrates British Painting

The showcase of Victorian pieces, entitled The Sleeping Beauty, will be open for people staying in cheap hotels in Madrid to visit until May 31st.

Arranged to address the fact that 19th century British art is not very widely represented in Spanish museum collections, the exhibition features a number of works borrowed from the Museo de Arte de Ponce in Puerto Rico.

Among the selection of paintings on show are works by such seminal artists as John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Thomas Seddon and William Holman Hunt.

There are a total of 17 pieces in the exhibition, which offer an insight into the movement known as the pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, which was founded in 1848 with the ambition of reforming English painting.

The Museo del Prado will be paying tribute to another British artist, Francis Bacon, with an exhibition running until April 19th.
