Madrid Museum Looks at Matisse
People with a passion for the art of Henri Matisse will be able to combine a visit to Madrid with an exhibition dedicated to the Frenchman this year.
The showcase at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in the Spanish capital will run from June 9th to September 20th and will focus on Matisse's career between the years of 1917 and 1941.
Particularly well-known for his use of colour, Matisse was a skilled and prolific painter but also worked as a draughtsman, printmaker and sculptor.
He created a body of work that spanned more than 50 years and is now recognised as one of the most important figures in 20th century art.
The exhibition in Madrid will present a number of Matisse's artworks in the context of the time in which they were created, when Europe was dealing with the aftermath of World War I and approaching the turmoil of the second world war.
Art enthusiasts staying in cheap hotels in Madrid will also be able to visit the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza before May 17th this year to see an exhibition focusing on the depiction of shadows in art and cinema.
