Places of Interest in Madrid

Las Austrias covers the area of Plaza Mayor and the Palacio Real. The Palacio Real is considered by many to be Madrid’s most beautiful building. Walking around the wide streets you will discover all manor of ceramic shops and guitar shops, situated on the famous Calle Mayor.

Malasana is the alternative side to Madrid’s high living of fashion and dinning. This area is full of musicians, restaurant’s, bars and cafes all offering lower prices. This place is especially good in the evenings.

Las Huertas this is the heart of Madrid and offers everyone something different. The area is a wash with bar’s, restaurants and also the main Theatre district of Madrid. Prices here are a little bit more, but don’t let that spoil the weekend.

Dinning out in Madrid

Dinning out in Madrid does not always have to be an expensive time, so here are a few tips. For under £10.00 you should try out Al-Jaima, Cocina del Desierto this Moroccan restraunt serves some of the tastiest food in Madrid. The restaurant is tucked away and takes some finding, but on entry you will think you are in the ancient city of Fez. This restaurant is located at 1 Calle Barbieri, Chueca.

If you want to spend a little more, then for under £20.00 and if you love Tapas then head for Juana la Loca. This restraunt is always busy and the food comes hot and fast, with the best tortilla in Madrid. The Juana la Loca is located at 4 Plaza Puerta de Moros.

If you are a seafood fan then for under £40.00 you have to try La Trainera. The restaurant is located in the upmarket shopping district of Salamanca. This elegant restaurant serves the finest fresh fish and local produces available. The restaurant is situated at 60 Calle Lagasc, dinning here will make for a memorable night out.

Madrid Nightlife

For kicking off the evening, you could start at Alcurela. Here you can get a table by the window and chill out in this cosy little bar. The Alcurela is located at 12 Calle Gravina. For those who like live music then try out Gula Gula at 1 Gran Via. This place is not only famous in Madrid, but throughout Spain as well. The drag queen spectacular starts at eleven and you will need to be there early to secure a table.

If you like your late nights, then head for the newly opened Fulanita de Tal, at 2 Calle Conde de Xiquena. You can dance here until 3am, to the sound of disco classics in this vibrant club that is normally packed to the rafters.

Getting from Madrid Airport

Train
There is an underground link (line 8) from the Airport to the city centre of Madrid. The cost of a single trip journey is 5.80 euros.

Taxi
The taxi rank is outside the arrival hall, and Madrid’s red stripe taxis will charge about 25 euros for the journey into the city centre.

Car Hire
The car hire desks are located in the arrival hall. There are many car rental companies represented in the airport, such as Hertz, Budget, Europcar and local suppliers.

Bus
The airport has a bus service from outside terminal 2. The journey takes about twenty minutes, and costs 4.00 euros. The bus operates every 10 minutes staring from 07.00-23.30.
