Major New Ancient History Exhibition Opens in Barcelona

Major new ancient history exhibition opens in Barcelona History-lovers staying in cheap hotels in Barcelona over the next few months will be able to enjoy a major new exhibition at the city's Egyptian Museum.

While the Catalonian capital is perhaps better-known for its architecture and its modern art galleries, it is also home to one of Europe's finest Egyptology museums.

Now, its reputation as a destination of choice for holidaymakers fascinated by the past has been further enhanced with the opening of the Pre-Columbian Funerary Art exhibition at the Egyptian Museum.

The show, which runs until the end of May 2010, contains hundreds of priceless exhibits taken from the tombs of Mesoamerica, Central America and the Andes, all of which date from before the arrival of the Europeans.

As well as the objects themselves, the exhibition also focuses on the life and work of the artist Carmen Tortola Valencia, who was heavily-influenced by the funerary art of the Ancients.

In addition to this latest exhibition, art-lovers taking advantage of cheap hotels in Barcelona can take in the Fundacio Joan Miro and the Picasso Museum, both devoted to the lives and works of two of Spain's best-loved artists.
