No Ordinary Joe

No ordinary Joe For those who like something really explosive, Valencia could just be the place in March at the Fallas festival.

Held from March 15th to the 19th, the festival is in honour of St Joseph, celebrated by the long-standing tradition of setting things on fire, although this is no random orgy of arson, with giant effigies being paraded through the streets of the city before crowds of thousands - and then set on fire.

Fireworks are another feature of the event, with the city's main square being the site of competitions for the loudest and most explosive display.

Valencia has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels, although those who wish to get some sleep should check it isn't too close to a Fallas Caseras (area where people gather to celebrate the festival).

Apart from all the fiery fun, Valencia has great nightlife and good food, being the birthplace of Paella.
