Portrait of Catalan King on Show in Barcelona

Portrait of Catalan king on show in Barcelona The only known portrait of the Catalan king Jaume I made in his lifetime is currently on display in Barcelona.

It is part of an exhibition entitled Princesses from Distant Lands: Catalonia and Hungary in the Middle Ages, which will be open at the Museu d'Historia de Catalunya until August 2nd.

The portrait dates all the way back to 1262 and is currently owned by the Montpellier Archaeological Society.

It depicts a hunting scene, with the king on horseback holding a falcon and one of his servants in attendance.

People staying in cheap hotels in Barcelona will see 200 other historical artefacts and pieces of art in the exhibition, including the tomb of Constanza of Aragon and the treasure of St Elizabeth of Portugal.

Visitors to Barcelona will find the Museu d'Historia de Catalunya at Placa Pau Vila in the Ciutat Vella district of the city.

The museum boasts a broad collection of objects that offer an insight into the history of Catalonia, looking at topics including the birth of the community and its relationship with the sea.
