Six Barcelona Monuments to Light Up This Christmas
Holidaymakers staying in cheap hotels in Barcelona this Christmas will be treated to a stunning spectacle as six monuments across the city are brought to life with festive lights.
The streets will be adorned with lights as usual, but this year the Dona amb Ocell sculpture, the monument to Francesc Macia and the Torre del Rellotge will also be illuminated.
Completing the list of monuments that will be lighting up the Barcelona nights this Christmas are the Torres Venecianes, the monument to the republic and the sculpture of David and Goliath.
There are a number of buildings across the city that are traditionally illuminated at Christmas, including the Town Hall and the council offices in Les Corts, Sarria-Sant Gervasi and Nou Barris.
Despite this festival of illumination, the Barcelona council claims that there will be an energy saving of seven per cent on Christmas lights this year compared to 2006.
This will be achieved through the use of low-consumption lights and a reduction in the strength of street lighting.
