Spain Claims Top Restaurant Spot
A Spanish chef has picked up an award for the world's best restaurant at an awards ceremony in Kensington last week.
Ferran Adria's restaurant El Bulli in the Costa Brava was named top of the 50 leading eateries in the world but he warned that his food does not travel well.
The Spaniard commented that anyone that wanted to sample his culinary delights would have to travel out there.
"While we have lots of great English chefs working in Spain, traditional Spanish food doesn't translate or even travel well outside Spain," Mr Adria told the Evening Standard.
Last year's winner, Heston Blumenthal, a chef at the Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, came in second place this year.
The culinary styles are similar and focus on using the latest technology to make their dishes come alive.
Perhaps it was Mr Adria's foie gras with ice-cream, rather than Mr Blumenthal's bacon and egg ice-cream that managed to secure him this year's top spot.
