Spain 'serves As a Home from Home for Brits'

Spain 'serves as a home from home for Brits' One of the reasons that Valencia, Barcelona and other destinations in Spain are so popular among Brits is that they are seen as a "home from home", according to the country's tourist board.

Carmen Hernandez, market analyst at the Spanish tourist office in London, said that Britons have continued to return to Spain for so many years that they have now developed a sense of familiarity with the country.

Commenting on the tourist board's marketing efforts this year, Ms Hernandez said: "We want to emphasise the idea of how Spain is a home from home for British tourists. Almost 90 per cent of Britons who travelled to Spain in 2008 had already been there on holiday before.

"The links between both countries are undeniable and strong. [Britons] feel safe and secure there and they know they can communicate easily with people, drive on safe road[s] and get the best healthcare if they need it."

Ms Hernandez also said that Spain is continuing to perform well in tourism terms this year, despite the effects of the global economic downturn.

Travellers planning to stay in cheap hotels in Valencia for their holiday this year can choose from several attractions to visit in the city, such as the City of Arts and Science and Torres de Quart, a medieval tower.
