Street Carnival Time in Alicante

The Moors and Christians Festival, one of the key events in Alicante's calendar, is celebrated with combination of religion, history and a street carnival.

Although the event is celebrated throughout Spain, each place has its own individual celebration, with Alicante seeing full dress re-enactments of the famous battles.

Residents watch the events in the morning, which are conducted by several companies, before they end with the informal and comic retreats, Whatsonwhen reports.

Each company has its retreat, where travellers and locals alike can get down to the more serious activities of eating and drinking to their heart's content.

Taking place at various dates throughout the summer, the 2006 instalments will see celebrations on August 12th, 16th, 24th and 28th, with another set expected on December 6th.

Alicante, a destination popular with golfers and fans of laid-back beach life, has a wide range of cheap hotels, with cut-price deals available throughout the year, although five-star accommodation is also available.
