Some of the world's most stunning photography is on show until November 11th as the World Press Photo exhibition takes place at the Centre de Cultura Contemporania de Barcelona.
This international showcase of photojournalism is widely recognised as the world's most important touring exhibition of this form of photography.
The Barcelona exposition displays the award-winning images from World Press Photo's annual competition.
Every year an international jury of 13 judges selects the best photographs submitted by journalists, agencies, newspapers and photographers from all over the world.
The pictures compete in a number of categories, including news events, current affairs, sport, action photography, daily life, portraits and entertainment.
In 2006 4,266 photographers from 123 countries were involved in the event, with images of the war in Iraq, the Asian tsunami and the crisis in Haiti among the contenders.
People staying in cheap hotels in Barcelona around the time of this exhibition should head to Carrer Montalegre, which runs parallel to La Rambla, the city's most famous street.
