Celebrate Snow in Sweden
Rather like a popular accompaniment for toast and sandwiches, snow is one of those things that people either love or hate.
If you place yourself proudly in the former category, then Kiruna, Sweden is the place to be in January as it hosts its annual Snow Festival.
This celebration of all things cold and wintry takes place from January 22nd to 27th in the far north of Sweden, one of the places in the world where it is possible to glimpse the stunning Northern Lights.
Kiruna plays host to a number of sculptures for the festival, created by teams of artists who are charged with fashioning their creations from a lump of solid snow measuring three cubic metres.
This event was first held in 1985 to mark the launch of the rocket Viking from the space station Esrange, which is 40km from Kiruna.
Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Sweden can find Kiruna in the far north-east of Sweden, close to the country's borders with Norway and Finland.
