Cinematic Celebrations in Sweden

Cinematic celebrations in Sweden The city of Gothenburg in Sweden will host its 31st International Film Festival in 2008 and use the occasion to celebrate a master of the art who passed away this year.

Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman died in July at the age of 89 and will be the subject of an extensive retrospective at the Gothenburg International Film Festival, which will run from January 25th to February 4th 2008.

Bergman - creator of the Seventh Seal, the film that famously saw a knight, played by Max Von Sydow, engage in a game of chess with the personification of Death - was the honorary president of the festival since 1994.

Up to 50 of the director's films will be screened in Gothenburg during the 2008 event to recognise his life and work.

The festival will also host the Swedish premiere of new movie I'm Not There, which tells the story of the life of Bob Dylan using six different performers, including Australian actress Cate Blanchett.

People planning a stay in a hotel in Gothenburg for the festival can book their tickets online.
