Party with the Goths

Anyone who believes that Gothenburg is just another fishing port should think again, especially in August when it becomes the venue of the biggest party in Sweden.

Goteborgskalaset (the Gothenburg Party) is an annual event, with the 2007 version taking place in August (dates to be confirmed), lasting a week and providing visitors staying in cheap hotels with a huge variety of enjoyable happenings.

With music, dancing, parades, food, fireworks and festivities, the event is a street party to which everybody is invited, with lots of free events and an extra special chance to enjoy the wide variety of seafood available in the city.

The city has good nightlife for those who can't party enough, while those who fancy slowing down a bit can enjoy the botanical gardens.

Anyone who really fancies getting away from it all can catch a ferry to the offshore archipelago, enjoying the sun and sea from the unspoilt little islands.
