Athletics fans will have extra reason to visit Stockholm in summer as it hosts one of the biggest athletics meetings in Europe at the still impressive 1912 Olympic Stadium.

Part of the IAAF World Athletics Tour, the event regularly attracts some of the very biggest names in the sport, both among men and women, to compete in a wide range of events.

Men take part in running events from the 100m right up to the 3,000m and 3,000m steeplechase, plus the high jump and triple jump.

Female athletes compete in a smaller number of disciplines in this event, although it does include the 5000m, while the ladies' field events are the high jump, long jump and pole vault.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Stockholm will also be able to enjoy the many sights and sounds of Scandinavia's biggest city.

These vary from the natural, such as the large and beautiful Lake Malaren which lies just inland from the city to the archipelago on which Stockholm itself is built, to the many grand and historic buildings in the city such as the imposing Stockholm Palace, residence of the Swedish royal family.
