Alpine Wrestling Among the Mountains

Wrestling large Swiss men may not be everyone's idea of a summer break, but competitors are set to flock to take part in July's Alpine wresting event.

On July 9th 2006, entrants will head to one of Switzerland's most famous beauty spots, the Rigi, to take place in a series of competitions.

The main event sees contestants circle each other in a ring of sawdust, before grappling with one another in an attempt to knock the sawdust off the others back – the winner being the one who successfully does so.

Aside from the wrestling, other Alpine games are available to contestants, such as stone throwing, pole climbing, different uphill races and many more.

However, it's not only the physically mighty who can enjoy the day among the jaw-dropping background, other activities such as a procession of cattle up the mountain, bedecked with flowers and heavy cowbells, might be for the more feint-hearted.

The Rigi, a popular region with walkers and sight-seers, is also complete with a large variety of restaurants, where visitors can recharge after their exertions.
