This is Museum Night, when a series of Berne museums stay open until 02.00 local time, allowing visitors to enjoy thee attractions long after most folk are tucked up in bed with a cup of cocoa.

Participating museums include the Statistical archives of Berne Cantons, The Museum of Psychiatry, the Botanical Gardens, Einstein House, the Natural History Museum and the Communications Museum, plus many more.

While night owls with a passion for history may enjoy themselves after dark, there are plenty of things to do in Berne by day as well.

The city is a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation world heritage site, with all the art galleries, theatres and gastronomic choice that might be expected from a capital city.

Berne also has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
