Christmas Gets Competitive

Christmas gets competitive Christmas is supposed to be a time of peace, love and good will to all men, but in Switzerland this December it will be about competition, rivalry and doing everything you can to get one over on your fellow man.

From December 1st Samnaun in Switzerland will host the annual Santa Claus World Championship, which sees groups of grown men don beards, red suits and black boots to take part in a number of Santa-themed challenges.

The participants will have to negotiate such tasks as chimney climbing, high-speed ginger bread decoration, donkey trekking and a good old-fashioned Santa race.

An annual event since 2001, the contest's organisers claim that it adds "a new dimension" to the tradition of Christmas.

Despite its fun and jovial nature, the competition can become very competitive, particularly as there is a prize of €3,200 (£2,200) up for grabs for the winning team.

Christmas-lovers who like the sound of this event should book a cheap hotel in Switzerland to ensure they don't miss any of the festivities.
