Geneva Celebrates Black Cinema

Geneva celebrates Black Cinema Geneva will be paying homage to films of African, Asian and Latin American origin next year as it hosts the Black Cinema Festival.

This event is an opportunity to see some striking and unconventional films, most of which have never been shown in Switzerland before.

All types of movie appear on the programme, including fiction and documentary, animation and experimental, long and short.

Among the particular focuses of the 2008 festival will be a consideration of the cinema of Taiwan over the past quarter of a century, the status of the filmmakers of modern-day Iran and the effects of war on Africa.

In 2007, some 19,000 people watched 72 films from 29 different countries at the Black Cinema Festival.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Geneva can find screenings all over the city between February 1st and 10th 2008.
