Ice Day for a Swim
For those with a very high cold tolerance threshold, or simply an interest in those who have, the Coupe de Noel is an event well worth heading to Geneva for.
Taking place on Sunday December 17th, the event sees swimmers aged 13 upwards race through 125 metres of seriously cold water (around four or five degrees celsius), in the lake for the chance to get their somewhat blue hands on the cup.
Run by the Geneve Natation 1885 club, the event, which has been held since 1934, has been fully subscribed this year, although brave spectators may wish to contact the club with a view to taking part in 2007.
Geneva also has many other, not to say warmer, attractions for visitors, including the United Nations building, St Peter's Cathedral and cruises on the lake.
There is plenty of accommodation in Geneva, including cheap hotels.
