Only the Brr-avest Need Apply
Visitors to Geneva in December will be given the opportunity to show just how brave they are in the Coupe de Noel swimming competition.
Every year this traditional Christmas event is held in the chilly Lake Geneva at the Jardin Anglais, with this year's race scheduled for December 16th.
The 125-metre contest involves 600 participants and is open to all members of the public aged 13 and over.
Only the strongest swimmers and those with the thickest skin should enter however, as at this time of the year the water temperature can fall as low as four degrees C and the air temperature can drop below zero.
Participants should also ensure they have a hotel with a warm bed to return to after their wintry water exploits.
First held in 1934, this race originally took place between two bridges over the River Rhone before it was moved to the Jardin Anglais on Lake Geneva for security reasons.
The Coupe de Noel is organised by Geneve Natation, Switzerland's leading swim club, and is free to watch.
