Roll on Down to Swiss Show

Roll on down to Swiss show This Saturday marks the beginning of the tenth anniversary of the Zurich Festival, a world-famous display of high arts and music.

The event will launch on June 17th with the pfauenfest, which features contributions from major cultural institutions, in front of and inside the Kunsthaus, concluding with an art marathon where Zurich’s two "cultural universities" will be presenting their latest work.

Between these two events, three open-air evenings in the Münsterhof, four serenades in the Centralhof, the Midsummer Night’s Ball at Zurich Main Station and an Indian dance festival in the Rieterpark will take place, allowing visitors to enjoy the festival and the weather.

The programme at the Tonhalle will feature ensembles such as the London Philarmonic Orchestra and the Tonhalle Orchestra, who will be performing under conductors Mikhail Pletnev and Mstislav Rostropovich, focussing on the 250th and 100th birthdays of Mozart and Shostakovich respectively.

Event organisers also draw attention to the setting in which the concerts will be held: "Nestling amidst gentle rolling hills, lush green forests and beautiful, clear lakes, Zurich and the surrounding region offer a unique blend of culture, adventure, enjoyment and nature."
