For those who regard getting cold and wet as extremely good fun, the Bettermeralp Waterslide competition on April 7th could be just the thing.
Held at the Swiss resort, whose name literally translates as "the better Alp", the event is both competitive and fun, with competitors in fancy dress or whatever they wish to wear sliding down a snowy slope and then across a pool on skis, a snowboard or any other means of slippery propulsion.
The name of the game is to get across the pool without falling in, with each round providing a shorter slope to slide on as the competition gets progressively harder.
While it can be great fun to take part in, some may prefer to enjoy it while staying dry and watching.
Visitors staying in cheap hotels in the area can also take part in traditional winter sports, or, if the snows have melted, hike around the mountains.
