A Tusk-see Event
Visitors to Thailand will get many chances to see elephants in action, but few if any will approach the spectacle of the Surin Elephant Round-up.
Centred on the Srinarong Stadium in Surin, a town in the east of the country, the event takes place on November the 17th and 18th 2007 and features a wide display of rituals, demonstrations and poetry, providing a deep insight into the life and work of these gentle giants and the role they play in Thai society and culture.
Tickets to the event are 500 baht (£7.67), according to event organisers, who have listed the spectacle of children bonding with baby elephants among the events, where the lifelong relationship between master and beast begins.
Naturally enough, visitors staying in cheap hotels in the area will also be able to sample a wide experience of culture, food and scenery while in the area, with plenty of temples, tradition and tastes to be discovered.
