Doubling Up

Doubling up Anyone thinking of heading to Bangkok may well be best arriving by April 6th, when the city has a double celebration to enjoy.

The date is known as Chakri Day, marking the anniversary of the founding of the Chakri Dynasty, in 1782, the date being marked with the establishment that day of Bangkok as the capital when King Rama I took to the throne.

On the day, King Bhumibol, present monarch and ninth in the dynasty, will lead a religious ceremony to pay respect to his deceased forebears.

This will be followed by a wreath-laying ceremony accompanied by Thailand's great and good and a number of people drawn from all walks of life.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels in the Thai capital will be able to enjoy the event and also see plenty of other interesting cultural traditions, sights and sounds.

Among these is a wide variety of temples, traditional cuisine and native flora and fauna.
