Live the Chiang Mai Life
Every year in the first week of January those irksome post-Christmas blues are swept away in Chiang Mai, Thailand as the city hosts its winter festival.
Believe it or not the north-east of Thailand gets quite cold at this time of the year so the Chiang Mai locals do their best to warm up the atmosphere by bedecking the town in colourful decorations and organising bustling markets.
A fair centred around the City Hall sells all sorts of interesting products, including food, handicrafts and local items that make excellent souvenirs.
One of the most popular elements of the festival, presumably made so by the male contingent, is the Miss Chiang Mai beauty pageant.
Chiang Mai is the largest city in northern Thailand and people staying in hotels there will be able to enjoy dramatic landscapes as it is situated among some of the country's tallest mountains.
It is situated on the Ping River, which is one of the principal tributaries of Thailand's Chao Phraya River.
